What is an Air Separation Unit (ASU)?
Air separation unit (ASU)
A Cryogenic Air Separation Unit (ASU) is an industrial facility that separates atmospheric air into its primary components—primarily oxygen, nitrogen, and argon—using a process of cryogenic fractional distillation at extremely low temperatures (typically below -150°C).
Cryogenic ASUs are the most efficient method for producing large volumes of high-purity gases, which are essential in industries such as steelmaking, chemical production, medical applications, electronics, and metal fabrication.
How it works
1.Air is filtered, compressed, and purified to remove moisture, carbon dioxide, and other impurities.
2.The clean air is cooled to cryogenic temperatures until it liquefies.
3.The liquid air is fed into a distillation column where it is separated based on the different boiling points of its components.
4.High-purity gases are extracted, warmed, and stored or delivered as products.

Industrial and Commercial Applications of ASU
In steelmaking and metal fabrication, high-purity oxygen is essential for furnaces to cut and weld metals efficiently. In the chemical industry, nitrogen creates inert atmospheres for safe processing, and oxygen is a key feedstock for ammonia synthesis and other processes, driving productivity and scale.

How Much Does an Air Separation Unit Cost?
Capacity & Scale: From Modular to Turn-Key Plants
The air separation unit cost varies significantly with scale. Small, modular units are ideal for limited spaces and lower output, while large-scale, custom-built plants for heavy industries represent a major capital project. We provide solutions across this spectrum, ensuring you invest in a plant that matches your exact production volume, from a few hundred to tens of thousands of Nm³/h.
Technology & Purity: Tailored to Your Process
The required gas purity and specific technology path (e.g., cryogenic vs. PSA/VPSA) are key cost drivers. Higher purity levels and more complex gas mixes necessitate advanced distillation internals and control systems, impacting the air separation unit price. We engineer each ASU to meet your precise specifications, avoiding over-engineering and unnecessary expense.
Efficiency & Automation: Reducing Lifetime Cost
Beyond the initial air separation unit capital cost, operational expenditure is crucial. Our plants are designed with energy-efficient cold boxes and intelligent automation that minimize power consumption and labor needs. This focus on low lifetime cost ensures your investment remains profitable for years to come.
Precise Quotation & Long-Term Value
Due to the custom nature of industrial ASUs, we provide detailed quotations after understanding your needs. The final cost reflects a balance of performance, quality, and long-term reliability. When you evaluate an air separation unit for sale, consider the total value—our robust engineering and proven track record deliver an unmatched return on investment.
